Hamilton has a new soccer team

From the Bulldogs to the Tiger Cats, Hamilton is home to an incredible assortment of sports teams. Next year, the city will add soccer to its roster as Hamilton joins the Canadian Premier League (CPL).

On Thursday, it was revealed that Hamilton’s team name will be Forge FC. The team name could not be more appropriate for Hamilton – as a city that is industrious, ambitious and built on hard work, the name celebrates Hamilton’s blue collar past and entrepreneurial future.

Forge FC will be one of the CPL’s founding clubs. There are currently five other teams – Cavalry FC from Calgary, FC Edmonton, HFX Wanderers FC from Halifax, Valour FC from Winnipeg and York 9 FC from the York Region.

Teams from British Columbia and Ottawa are expected to join as founders. The CPL plans to have ten teams in total.

Forge FC will play their home games at Tim Hortons Field. With a seating capacity of 14,000, there will be plenty of space for spectators to enjoy the soccer matches.

The CPL will debut in 2019.
