Hamilton says goodbye to Ralph the dog

Back in June, Hamilton welcomed a new furry friend to City Hall. The giant dog sculpture, affectionately named Ralph, spent his summer in the forecourt gardens and was deemed an artistic success by many Hamiltonians. Now that summer is over, the five-metre-long pooch made of leatherleaf sedge must say goodbye.

Ralph officially moved away from City Hall yesterday morning, leaving an empty space in both the gardens and our hearts.

While we’ll miss driving past Ralph on Main Street, this isn’t the last we’ll see of him.

Ralph’s next home will be at the city greenhouses at Gage Park where he’ll star in this year’s Mum Show. He’ll receive a festive makeover, complete with new red fur, to transform in Clifford The Big Red Dog. As this year’s show theme is ‘Once Upon A Toy’, Ralph will blend right on in.

Due to the public’s positive reaction to Ralph at City Hall, Hamilton plans to take on other fun horticultural projects in the future. As it stands, the current plan is to introduce a different large project to the forecourt gardens every four years.

If you want to see Ralph one last time, be sure to visit the Mum Show. The show opens October 26 and runs through November 4.
