Swoop names first airplane after Hamilton

Remember when Swoop, WestJet’s sister company and Canada’s newest affordable airline, was announced last fall? Travellers across Canada were all abuzz — exploring from coast to coast was about to become much, much easier. With Swoop’s first flight set to take off on June 20, the airline has announced the name of its first aircraft.

Welcome to the sky, #Hamilton.

Painted in a shiny coat of magenta and white, #Hamilton is as beautiful as they come. The aircraft was named as a nod to the city of Hamilton and for the important role Hamilton’s airport played in the airline’s beginnings. John C. Munro Hamilton International Airport (YHM) was Swoop’s very first hub.

The new airline will also allow more people to fly directly out of Hamilton. Last year, nearly 600,000 passengers flew out of Hamilton’s airport. With the addition of Swoop, Hamiltonians and those in nearby cities have more travel options.

Presently, Swoop flies to five different destinations — Abbotsford, Edmonton, Winnipeg, Hamilton, and Halifax. The airline is currently working on adding more destinations, continuing to make travelling across Canada a pleasant and affordable experience.

The new airline is making it possible for more Canadians to get out there and travel. Hamilton will always be home, but seeing Canada in all its glory is a humbling experience. If you can explore the country, go out there and do it.
