City of Burlington is hosting a virtual Canada Day celebration

Burlington will be hosting its first ever virtual Canada Day celebration with special musicals guests and even a digital fireworks show.

The celebration will be hosted by former TV presenter for Much Music and ET Canada Rick Campanelli and will include a full day of activities and events on July 1st.

Special musical guests, yet to be announced, will be performing via video stream. There will also be interactive activities for the community to participate in while adhering to physical distancing guidelines.

Ontario still has limits on large gatherings amid the pandemic, which has made outdoor summer events look for alternative options to continue with celebrations.

The event kicks off at 10 am with a message from Mayor Marianne Meed Ward followed by a special performance of O’ Canada by the Burlington Teen Tour Band.

There will also be a bucket drumming performance with CRASH Rhythm, White Pine Dancers Storytelling, a Canadian Heritage Virtual Program, and National Canada Day Drumming Experience with the day finished by a Snap’d virtual fireworks show presented by Bunzl.

Burlington’s annual Canada Day festivities are among the top 100 events in Ontario. It’s also funded with support from the Government of Canada.

Lead-up events will also take place over the days before July 1st including a Canada Day Play Challenge that’s similar to a scavenger hunt with prizes to be given out to the top three teams.
