Masks are now available for free at Burlington City Hall

Face coverings are now mandatory in all indoor public spaces in Burlington. With this new bylaw, the city has received donations of about 14,000 masks that are available for free at City Hall for those who may need them.

Temporary mask bylaws have been all the rage for municipalities in the GTHA with Hamilton, Burlington, Brantford, and Brant County all requiring face coverings in indoor public spaces.

Not only has the mask bylaw come into effect, but Burlington was announced as a city that can enter Stage 3 starting Friday

In Stage 3, limits on indoor gatherings will increase to 50 people, outdoor gatherings will increase to 100 people, and a further list of businesses and services can reopen.

“As we move into Stage 3, I urge residents and businesses to be cautious and diligent, and do everything we can to safeguard each other and especially members of our community with more vulnerable immune systems, as more services reopen,” said Burlington mayor Marianne Meed Ward in a statement released yesterday.

Meed Ward also endorsed the recommended measures released by Toronto mayor John Tory.

Tory’s letter to the provincial government included amendments to the Stage 3 outlines, suggesting measures such as keeping patrons inside restaurants seated unless entering or exiting, setting earlier closing times for establishments that sell food and drink, and reduced capacities in restaurants and bars.

“I urge residents to continue following all health directives including physical distancing, wearing masks inside public spaces, using hand sanitizer and frequently washing hands, and staying home when sick. These measures will be especially critical in larger gatherings,” said Meed Ward.

Hamilton is also preparing to enter Stage 3 this Friday and had a similar face covering bylaw come into effect on Monday.
