Burlington transit to start collecting fare again on September 1st

The free ride on Burlington city buses is coming to an end. Starting September 1st, Burlington Transit will be collecting fares on all buses again.

This comes after months of local transit being free for riders during the COVID-19 pandemic in order to allow for essential workers to get around the city.

Riders can pay fares using PRESTO Cards. The standard cost for riding with a PRESTO Card still applies starting at $2.75 for an adult single ride.

Burlington’s Downtown Bus Terminal is also reopening on August 19th with limited services. The terminal will be open Monday to Friday from 9 am to 4 pm.

Visitors to the terminal can expect to follow public health protocols such as wearing a mask while indoors, using hand sanitizer often, and providing name and number for contact tracing.

Burlington Transit will be offering SPLIT passes, ePurse Loads, Free Seniors Pass, and Lost and Found at the downtown terminal.

Monthly passes and U-Pass add-ons will not be available and visitors will only be allowed to pay using debit or credit. They will not accept cash at this time.

There will also be more services added and schedule changes effective August 23rd. Changes to bus schedules can be found here
