Burlington city council met earlier this week to approve an earlier start date for its temporary patio program.
Local restaurants can now apply to have their patio open as early as April 15th, 2021.

Council also made other changes to the approval process with fees being waived and 2020 temporary patio permits allowed to be renewed based on last year’s approval.
The changes are to ensure that local businesses would be able to get their patio permit approval turned around much quicker than other years in order to give them an opportunity to open much earlier.
It was recommended by Community Planning Director Mark Simeoni that business owners interested in installing a patio for the spring, summer, or fall season should submit their applications as soon as possible.
A streamlined zoning process was also approved by council allowing patio tents to be constructed earlier in the year and will be providing an additional $5000 to the existing grant tent permit program to reimburse costs.
Burlington restaurants and small businesses are required to send in their applications for the 2021 temporary patio program before March 31st.
