City councillor Donna Skelly has big ideas on how to improve Hamilton. Many of her suggestions use Lime Ridge Mall as the location for where major changes should be made.
Coun. Skelly’s first suggestion is that the mountain might make for an excellent new location for the Hamilton Bulldogs. Skelly believes that the city should explore the possibility of placing a new hockey arena at Lime Ridge Mall.
With an HSR terminal being on mall property, as well as having an exit right off the Linc, Lime Ridge would make for a greatly accessible option.
Skelly’s second suggestion is to look at building condos, apartments, or office spaces at Lime Ridge. Coming at a time where Hamilton is in an affordable housing crisis, this move may not be so bad.
With the closure of Sears, Lime Ridge has lost one of its two major anchor tenants. There is a large amount of free space available with endless possibilities on how to utilize the freed up square footage.
Hamilton wouldn’t be the first city in the province to launch a condo or office development at a mall. Ottawa’s Elmvale Acres Shopping Centre and Toronto’s ePlace are in the process of building such developments.
Would you want to live at the mall? How do you feel about relocating the Bulldogs? Let us know in the comments below!
