Hamilton Bulldogs win OHL championship

The Hamilton Bulldogs took on the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds this past weekend for game 6 round 4. Coming into the game 3-2, Hamilton would win the OHL championship if the Bulldogs won Sunday afternoon.

Well, the Bulldogs assembled and beat the Greyhounds 5-4, taking home the OHL championship title!

The game was a nail biter for hockey fans.

The end of the first period showed 1-0 Greyhounds.

The beginning of the second period was a slow start for the Bulldogs, with the Greyhounds quickly scoring their second goal.

As the minutes ticked on, the Bulldogs took charge of the ice and successfully popped a couple goals themselves. Brandon Saigeon scored the Bulldogs’ first goal of the game, and Mackenzie Entwistle scored the second.

The Greyhounds were able to get a third goal in, bringing the second period score to 3-2 Greyhounds.

All of the action went down in period 3.

Riley Stillman scored the first goal of the period, tying the game up 3-3.

Robert Thomas followed suit, bringing the score 4-3.

With less than two minutes remaining in the third period, Nick Caamano scored the Bulldogs’ fifth goal of the game.

The Greyhounds scored their fourth goal of the game with less than a minute left, but it wasn’t enough to tie the Bulldogs.

The Bulldogs aren’t quite ready to put down their sticks though — the Memorial Cup is just on the horizon.

As the OHL’s champions, they’ll now be heading off to Regina to play against the host city’s team as well as the champions of the other two divisions —  Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL) and Western Hockey League (WHL) — for a shot at the Memorial Cup.

Whatever happens, we’re super proud of our Bulldogs for their success so far!

Were you at the hockey game on Sunday? Will you be tuning into the Memorial Cup? Let us know in the comments.
