Hamilton Bulldogs get new head coach

John Gruden’s sudden departure from the Hamilton Bulldogs left big shoes to fill. After spending two seasons with the Bulldogs and winning this year’s OHL championship, Gruden left to become the assistant coach for the New York Islanders. Nearly a month after Gruden’s departure, the Hamilton Bulldogs announced that Dave Matsos will be their new head coach.

Matsos isn’t new to the Bulldog family – not only did he serve as the team’s assistant coach for the 2017-2018 season, but he also played for the Bulldogs from 1998-1999.

Prior to arriving in Hamilton, Matsos was the head coach of the Sudbury Wolves from 2014 to 2017. Before moving up into the role of head coach, he served as the team’s associate coach for two seasons.

Fans will be happy to know that the Bulldogs have kept plenty of familiar faces in their coaching staff. Coming into his third season with the team, Vince Laise has been promoted to associate coach. It has also been announced that Ron Wilson is staying on as an associate coach.

After such a successful season, we can’t wait to see what’s in store for the Hamilton Bulldogs.

Did the Hamilton Bulldogs make the right choice by appointing Dave Matsos head coach? Let us know in the comments.
