Fairweather Brewing drops a dope double beer release

Local craft beer devotees have not one, but two exciting freshly-bottled beers to fill their glasses with this week.

Fairweather Brewing Company, a Hamilton-based craft brewery that’s quickly becoming known as one of the best in Ontario, dropped a double release this past weekend, reviving two favourites that are vastly different in style but equal in awesomeness.

Returning to the brewery line-up first is Madrugador, a 4.5% ABV session stout brewed with loads of delicious Dundas-roasted Detour Coffee.

Think of any beer you’ve had that used coffee in its recipe. Now imagine if that beer packed ten times the coffee realness in every sip. That’s Madrugador. It’s a nutty, chocolatey, earthy-yet-easy stout comparable to refreshing cold brew in its flavour profile, and the light body and low ABV makes it a perfect season transition beer as the heat dies down and we anxiously wait for the autumn leaves to start tumbling down.

Or, if you’re not quite ready to let go of the summer sun, Fairweather has also rereleased the original iteration of Beki, a 5.4% ABV American-style kettle sour with lactose sugar, raspberries, mint, and plenty of Mosaic hops.

Fairweather fans will fondly remember this as one of last summer’s most popular poolside beers, emulating a sunny glass of pink lemonade with balanced red fruit and citrus tartness, some creamy sweetness from the lactose, subtle and refreshing mint presence, and a healthy dose of Mosaic hops keeping the whole thing firmly rooted in beer territory. It’s another prime example from Fairweather of how to do an experimental sour right; a summery flavour-bomb with every element of its profile impeccably harmonized.

But these beers aren’t the only reason to pay a visit: the Ofield Road brewery recently opened their spectacular front patio with ample seating, just in time for patrons to soak up the remaining few weeks of nice weather and luxuriate over mainstay Fairweather faves like High Grade, one of the best Ontario flagship IPAs money can buy; and Dream Pop, an excellent straight-up kettle sour that’s becoming a local staple on restaurant tap lists.
