Frost Bites announces last call for artist submissions

Local art makers and movers ‘n shakers, get cracking: the 2020 Frost Bites site-specific arts festival is accepting submissions from Hamiltonian creators and performers until this Friday, September 6th.

Hosted each winter as a sister event to the Hamilton Fringe Festival, Frost Bites curates a diverse selection of indie artists working in theatre, music, dance, visual art, and beyond to create and present new short works inspired by, and performed in, unconventional venues in Hamilton.

Do you miss the FRINGE? Never fear, we have a WINTER festival too and it's not too late to apply. Frost Bites runs…

The festival has drawn in increasingly large and widespread audiences over its short history, heating up a frigid February weekend with scorchingly hot new artistic works in gorgeous local spots.

Past festivals have taken place in super cool (pun intended) spots throughout the city like the Cotton Factory, Art Gallery of Hamilton, and New Vision United Church. The winter event exists to invigorate non-traditional performance spaces within landmark local buildings and their surrounding areas with bite-sized live performances created and presented by multidisciplinary artists.

It’s also a place to drink beer and sip on soup from The Burnt Tongue while checking out some of that local art. Sounds like something you want to be part of, right?

While the location of the 5th annual Frost Bites is currently under wraps, the festival will run over the weekend of January 30th to February 2nd, 2020. Selected artists and companies will be granted space and resources to create and present a new original site-specific performance piece running no longer than 20 minutes, which will then be performed multiple times a night for small rotating audiences over the run of the festival.

Local emerging and established artists from a wide range of disciplines are encouraged to apply, and selected artists and companies receive a fee to participate. Applications will be reviewed by a jury of artistic peers after the submission deadline this Friday, September 6th, with an announcement of the 2020 line-up to follow.

More information about the 2020 Frost Bites and details on how to apply can be found on the Hamilton Fringe Festival’s website.
