Local writers had better warm up their typing fingers and get those imaginations going, because the HamilTEN 10 Minute Play Festival is currently accepting submissions for the 2020 festival line-up.
Entering its 9th year, the HamilTEN Festival is a one-of-a-kind initiative in Hamilton: a curated community theatre festival showcasing new scripts by local writers of all levels of experience, from seasoned professionals to artists taking a stab at writing their first play.
There’s one major rule though: the plays must all run no longer than 10 minutes.
We are now accepting 10-minute script submissions for our 8th #HamilTEN Theatre Festival! Scripts are due November 1, 2019 at 11:59pm. Guidelines have changed slightly since last year, so be sure to read all of the details on our website. ???? #HamOnthttps://t.co/8pYqcfl7Qj

Local playwrights of all kinds are invited to submit one script per author for consideration between now and the deadline on November 1st, at which point a jury will select plays to be in the line-up for the 2020 festival. Each successful playwright will be given the space to present their play, basic technical resources, and supportive full houses of theatre-goers.
Originally presented at the Pearl Company in its inaugural 2011 year by founder Darren Stewart Jones, the festival is now hosted at The Staircase Theatre, a Hamilton gem and local arts incubator with an intimate, laid-back black-box studio theatre.
For one jam-packed weekend in April 2020, audiences can catch one of three different hour-long shows, each comprised of a different grab bag of short and snappy 10-minute plays in genres ranging from dramas to comedies, from experimental pieces to straightforward character studies.
The festival is like a buffet of bite-sized theatrical hors d’oeuvres; your favourites plays leave you wanting more, and the ones you don’t care for are, well, over in 10 minutes! It’s like binging Netflix, but live. Sweet, right?
Think you’ve got a script that fits the bill? Submission guidelines and more information on the festival can be found on the HamilTEN Festival website.
