Plans to block the road leading to the Burlington Canal Bridge were announced earlier this week by the group. The protest lasted between 9 am and 10 am on Thursday morning.
Members of the Hamilton group blocked traffic for five minute periods while holding signs and banners.
Extinction Rebellion Hamilton is part of a larger international group that are working to push governments to take action on climate change. The group was formed about a year ago in the U.K. with the goal of engaging in nonviolent civil disobedience to bring attention to climate change concerns.
Thank you to those who’ve expressed their support for our action today at the Burlington Canal Lift Bridge. To those who were held up briefly during their commute, we apologize. If talking was getting us anywhere, we wouldn’t be resorting to blockades. #rebelforlife

Extinction Rebellion was founded in October 2018 by Roger Hallam and Gail Bradbrook. It was formed as a response to the Special Report: Global Warming of 1.5 C. The report said that policymakers only had 12 years to make changes before climate change became a global catastrophe. The group is also concerned that we have entered the sixth global mass extinction event.
