Hamilton Bulldogs beat the Barrie Colts in front of thousands of students

Earlier today, the Hamilton Bulldogs beat the Barrie Colts in front of thousands of students who had come for the first of two ‘School Day Games’ this season. School Day Games have have become common practice around the OHL, as teams give local schools a chance to come out and support their city’s junior hockey team.

Upwards of 6000 students from the Hamilton-Wentworth Catholic District School Board packed the FirstOntario Centre for the 10:30 am game. The Bulldogs won their last meeting with Barrie 7-5 but the Colts came into today’s game on a three-game win streak while Hamilton had lost three of their last four.

Hamilton took control of the game early, exiting the first period with a 2-0 lead. Barrie fought back with a pair of goals in both the second and third periods, but in the end they couldn’t overcome their early deficit and Hamilton hung on to win 5-4.

2018 Arizona Coyotes third-rounder Jan Jenik lead the way with two goals and an assist, while the LA Kings’ highly touted 33rd overall selection from 2019, Arthur Kaliyev, also tallied three points (1 G, 2A).

The Bulldogs’ second and final School Day Game of the year is on November 20th when the Peterborough Petes come to town. While today’s game was for Catholic school students, the Petes game will be for students at Hamilton’s public schools.
