Hamilton recognizes 40 of its fastest growing businesses

With businesses ranging from innovative new start-ups to classic family-owned bakeries, the City of Hamilton has recognized and honoured its 40 fastest-growing businesses.

Awards were given to recipients during a ceremony at city hall on Tuesday morning. The ceremony was part of the “Fast 40” initiative, which is part of Hamilton’s 2016–2020 economic action plan.

One of the goals of the initiative is to have 10 Hamilton-based business recognized as part of Canadian Business Magazine’s “500 Fastest-Growing Business.”

Hamilton’s Director of Economic Development, Glen Norton says the city is hoping that the businesses who won the award will attract national recognition for their marketing efforts.

Some of the businesses that received the award have been in the city for decades, while some of the businesses are relatively new to Hamilton.

Businesses can apply to be a “Fast 40” company in May if they follow a few criteria such as having a head office in Hamilton or existing as a local company for at least two years.

An important outcome for the “Fast 40” program is that it helps the city identify companies that are scalable, expanding into new markets, and job growth in the area.

“These fast-growing companies are a big reason behind Hamilton’s growing and diversifying economy. Congratulations to Hamilton’s ‘Fast 40,’ who represent some of the very best in business our city has to offer. Thank you for being part of Hamilton’s transformation story,” said Mayor Fred Eisenberger.

Some notable recipients of the award are Collective Arts Brewing, MERIT Brewing Company, Marci’s Bakery, Clifford Brewing, Roma Bakery, and Balzac’s Coffee Ltd.
