It’s going to be a rainy Halloween in Hamilton

Whatever your plans are for this Halloween – trick-or-treating, partying, or any other spooky activities – it might be a good idea to bring a raincoat. According to Environment Canada, there is a 70% chance of rain on Halloween night with a likelihood of showers throughout the weekend.

The change in weather doesn’t really come as a surprise – it’s almost November, after all – but nonetheless, the forecast is sure to be a bit disappointing to everyone planning to be outdoors on Halloween night. At least the weather in Hamilton isn’t set to be quite as grim as other parts of Ontario, particularly in Northern Ontario where there may be over 20 cm of snowfall over the weekend.

In any case, why should a little bit of rain stop anyone from having a great Halloween? There are plenty of ways to make the most of the night, in any weather conditions. Trick-or-treaters who are wary of covering their costumes with a coat can try adding layers underneath, or carrying an umbrella with one hand while grasping their candy bag with the other.

Skin-coloured items such as tights and unitards can add a lot of extra warmth without taking away from the costume. Underclothes such as vests and long-johns are also great options if the costume allows. You can also bring along season hot drinks like cider or hot chocolate to sip on. You can even work umbrellas into almost any costume. Even zombies don’t like getting wet.

Despite the gloomy weather, Hamiltonians looking to party on Halloween can still have a good time. Most nightclubs have coat checks, so you can wear your coat to the venue and take it off once inside. This way you can wear whatever you want for the function but still escape the night without catching a cold. Because it’s Halloween, some of the more popular clubs may have lines to get in. Jackets are a smart choice in case of a long wait.

Halloween party people may also look to take advantage of Hamilton’s transit system or rideshare apps such as Uber and Lyft to limit the amount of walking you do in the rain. Anyone still looking for Halloween plans where they can stay dry should check out some of the ample indoor fun, such as Hammer Hopper’s Pumpkin Spice Ball or a couple of exclusive sneak peek food pop-ups.
