Justin Trudeau speaks at Collective Arts Brewery

Liberal leader Justin Trudeau spent Thanksgiving Monday speaking with local Liberal candidate Jasper Kujavsky at Collective Arts Brewery in Hamilton.

Trudeau stopped in Hamilton on Monday afternoon as one of six campaign stops throughout Southern Ontario. He decided to stop to rally in support of Kujavsky as he runs in the Hamilton Centre riding, which has been a stronghold for the New Democratic Party since 2004.

During Trudeau’s visit to the brewery, he warned against cuts that would be made under a federal Conservative government. His wife Sophie Grégoire, and two children Xavier and Ella-Grace, joined him on stage as he referenced Ontario Premier Doug Ford’s cuts to services and compared them to the policies of Andrew Scheer.

Trudeau also spoke about the work he and his government have done renegotiating a replacement deal for NAFTA. He criticized the NDP on the issue and said it would be not responsible for them to renegotiate the agreement if they form a government this fall. Trudeau claimed the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA) would benefit local steelworkers at Dofasco and Stelco.

A crowd of more than 100 supporters gathered at Collective Arts Brewery for a chance to get a glimpse of the Liberal leader. The Hamilton stop only lasted about half an hour.

Local Hamilton Centre Liberal candidate Kujavsky is in a close race with the NDP candidate. If elected, Kujavsky said he wants to address poverty reduction, affordable housing, a stronger job market, and a transformational project to fully reclaim the waterfront.

Trudeau was not pictured wearing a bullet-proof vest, which he had to wear during a recent stop in Mississauga after safety concerns.
