Brock University is looking for a new campus in the Hamilton area

In an official release on Wednesday, Brock University announced that they are planning on closing and selling their campus on King Street by 2021. Their goal is to find and new, more modern facility in the Hamilton/Burlington/Oakville area that they can move into.

Brock’s King Street location has been open since 2000, but the university has maintained a teaching presence in Hamilton for over thirty years.

The Hamilton campus has been used primarily for teacher education. Since being taken over by Brock in 2000, thousands of teachers in school districts both near and far from Hamilton have received their education there.

While the location has served well over the years, Brock’s Dean of Education said modernization was necessary in order for the university to “meet the growing needs of schools for professionally educated leaders,” and best serve the needs of students.

The university plans to widen the scope of programs available at the new campus, but says that renovating the current location to accommodate an expanded scope would have been cost-prohibitive.

They are hopeful that the property be used as a development opportunity in Hamilton’s east end after they leave, and will be putting it up for sale very soon.
