Forge FC striker Tristan Borges wins CPL Player of the Year Award

Forge FC forward Tristan Borges caps of a hat-trick of trophies after being named the Canadian Premier League’s Player of the Year.

Borges had already won the CPL Championship with Forge, and won the Golden Boot before being given the Player of the Year award at a ceremony in Toronto on Tuesday. Borges was also named Best Canadian U-21 player during the ceremony. The award was the cap on an impressive season for Toronto-native.
The 21-year-old beat out fellow nominees Dominique Malonga of Cavalry FC and Forge teammate Kyle Bekker. The award takes into account the player’s performances for the full 2019 season as well as both legs of the finals. The winner was selected by a panel of judges made up of media writers and reporters from across Canada.
“It’s amazing. Amazing. To win these awards after (Forge) winning the championship, it’s amazing for myself. But I give all the credit to my teammates. It was a great year from all of us, (my teammates) put me into great positions to score goals, to play good. … This is a good spot for me to be in right now,” Borges told reporters on Tuesday.

Borges signed for Forge in January and quickly announced himself as one of their star players. He finished the season with 13 goals and 5 assists. Also, he averaged more shots, completed more tackles and made more key passes per 90 minutes than any other midfielder in the league.
Each award is a unique piece of Inuit art soapstone carved by artists from Kinngait (Cape Dorset), Nunavut.
