New ‘one-stop shop’ for tech innovation opens in Hamilton

With Hamilton garnering larger and larger attention for its burgeoning arts and culinary scenes, the city might end up on the map for tech innovation soon as well.

This week saw the official opening of the new collaborative space for Hamilton’s Innovation Factory, an institution endeavouring to be Hamilton’s one-stop shop for tech innovation in the city. The new 10,000 square foot office space will serve as a hub for local entrepreneurs to explore ideas, gain mentorship, participate in workshops, and access office space and meeting rooms.

Through a $1.2 million investment from FedDev Ontario, Innovation Factory was able to open its doors this week at McMaster Innovation Park, in a space shared with The Forge, a local business incubator.

One of Innovation Factory’s largest ongoing projects is taking shape within their Centre for Integrated Transportation and Mobility, or CITM, wherein the organization is exploring new innovations in autonomous vehicle technologies.

Innovation Factory is also using its CITM Smart City Lab for current testing of 5G data capabilities, which if successful could make a major impact on cellular data speeds in the future. The tech possibilities explored by Innovation Factory, and their potential to earn Hamilton even more widespread recognition, is nothing less than exciting.
