Sam Lawrence Park, one of the many beautiful and beloved parks in Hamilton, has had three new design concepts submitted by the city.
Situated on the top of the Hamilton Escarpment, the park is heralded for its scenic views of the lower city, Dundas Valley, and Lake Ontario. The park, which has not undergone a Master Plan update in 25 years, is due for several upgrades.
Many current features are declining due to age and weathering, and others are subject to vandalism. As such, the city has undergone a plan to repair, update, and upgrade the park with new and shiny features. The three design concepts labelled the “Quick Fix” concept, the “Bypass Link” concept, and the “Enhancement” concept.
One of Hamilton's best parks is about to get better!

The “Quick Fix” design concept, the cheapest and most efficient design, is focused primarily on refurbishing and upgrading the current structure of the park. This is the bare minimum standard for improvement
The next design, titled the “Bypass Link”, is similar to the first design, except it features one major improvement, a bypass bridge that would allow pedestrians to travel from Concession street to the heart of the park.
The final design, the “Enhancement”, is the most exciting one of them all. This design also features the new pedestrian bridge, as well as several other amenities. An observation platform will be added where the parking lot is now, an amphitheatre will be added in the nearby passive open space, and food truck access in the new parking lot.
The City of Hamilton has invited locals to give direct feedback on the design concepts, and vote on which design they would like to see.
