The Espresso Cafe in Dundas is closing

In a city where the lion’s share of local coffee shops lean further and further into a trendy, hipster vibe, there’s something to be said for a spot like The Espresso Café in Dundas; a space for which a lived-in, unpretentious feel is all part of the charm.

It’s sad, then, that The Espresso Café is set to officially close its doors at its well-worn Downtown Dundas spot at the end of this year.

While The Espresso Café has existed on a prominent King Street corner in Dundas for many years, it always remained somewhat of a hidden gem all the same. A lot of Dundas’ caffeine heads tend to gravitate towards the trendier indie spots like Detour Coffee and Grupetto, or to established corporate chains like Starbucks or Tim Horton’s, and completely miss the approachable atmosphere, solid coffee, and appetizing light bites The Espresso has to offer.

Fortunately, The Espresso’s closure doesn’t seem to be the result of any drought in business; the owners are closing up shop simply to move into a well-deserved retirement.

The closure also means that a prime spot of local real estate for a new restauranteur to open up shop. Those interested in adding their next hospitality venture to the bustling Downtown Dundas community would be smart to set their sights on the King Street and Foundry Street storefront.

The Espresso Café officially closes in Dundas as of December 31st, 2019. This is your chance to grab one last cup of coffee and say goodbye to this iconic Dundas staple.
