Hamilton Public Health is part of a network of other provincial health units that is also connected to Canada’s public health agency and the World Health Organization, according to the city’s associate medical officer of health Dr. Bart Harvey.
Currently, provincial health officials are monitoring 27 Ontario people with possible coronavirus as well as one confirmed case in Toronto and one presumptive case of the illness found in British Columbia.
There are extra precautions that were put in place by Hamilton Health Science that are intended to detect any potential cases of the virus. As of now, no cases of coronavirus are confirmed in Hamilton.
Hospitals have stocked up on protective gear and are engaging in proactive screening processes including questions connected to specific symptoms and travel to China within the last few months.
In December 2019, cases of pneumonia were reported in Wuhan, China that were caused by a new coronavirus that has not been found in humans before. The virus is now known as the 2019 Novel Coronavirus or 2019-nCoV.
