Falcons gave birth to chicks on top of Hamilton’s Sheraton Hotel

A local family grew a little larger over the last couple of days. Two peregrine falcons that are nesting on top of the Sheraton Hotel in downtown Hamilton had chicks.

According to the Hamilton Falconwatch, observers saw a head of one of the chicks on Tuesday morning. The new parents are known as Ossie and Lily and have been nesting on the hotel rooftop for about six years.

After observers saw a glimpse of one of the chick’s heads, the mounted camera viewing the nest eventually saw Lily feeding two chicks later in the day. Falconwatch first noticed the falcon’s eggs on March 18th.

The winged downtown residents produced several eggs last year, but stopped trying to incubate failed eggs in June.

Pictures of the chicks were originally posted on The Hamilton Community of Peregrine Falcons Project website. Falconwatch has been tracking Ossie and Lily for almost six years. Their website is also home to a live video stream of the nest on top of the Sheraton Hotel at Jackson Square.

According to their website, Lily was banded in 2010 at the Grand Haven Board of Light and Power Plant in Michigan, and Ossie fledged from the Osler Hospital in Etobicoke in 2012.
