According to a report by the Hamilton Spectator, local bylaw officers have been actively patrolling the areas that people are not allowed to visit during the COVID-19 emergency order such as playgrounds, skate parks, escarpment stairs, waterfront trails, beaches, waterfalls, dog parks, golf courses, and boat launches.
Officers were also on the lookout for groups of more than five people congregating. The areas where most people were caught violating the closure orders were golf courses, Albion Falls, and the city’s escarpment stairs.
People were also caught removing barricades and fencing at Hamilton’s escarpment stairs, and ignoring closed parking areas while visiting waterfalls and parks.
Locals caught removing or damaging city property could face criminal charges. Hamilton police officers have also been doing to work to help educate locals on these ongoing restrictions.
