Hamilton is experiencing the longest stretch of weather below 20°C in over 30 years

Cold weather has been sticking around the Hamilton area a lot longer than usual this year. In fact, the city is currently experiencing the longest stretch of consecutive days with temperatures remaining below 20°C since 1988.
Hamilton hit the 200 day mark of weather below 20°C over the weekend, making it the sixth longest run in the city’s history, according to YOW-Weather-Records on Reddit. The Reddit account collects weather data on major cities across the country.

In a chart posted in the HamiltonWxRecords community, the Redditor posted a chart that shows the 10 longest stretches of colder weather. The longest duration is 226 days stretching from September 27th, 1977 to May 10th, 1978.
Our current streak of weather below 20°C could end up as high as third on the list by the end of the week, with the forecast predicted to hover around 10°C for the next few days. That will overtake a 101 year-old record of 206 consecutive days below 20°C that was set in a period from October 13th, 1918 to May 6th, 1919.
YOW-Weather-Records also predicted that it could be the coldest April 20th since records began in 1866, with a low temperature of -6°C. It would overtake the -5.6°C low on April 20th set all the way back in 1887.
As of April 20th, the current run is 201 consecutive days with temperatures under 20°C having started on October 2nd, 2019. With cooler temperatures predicted for the remainder of April, this stretch of days could knock-off the top spot by May 16th.
