VIDEO: Watch this massive salute for the funeral of a Hamilton tow truck driver

Dozens of tow operators lined Upper Gage Street at noon today to honour 30-year-old Peter Szymczak who was a tow-truck driver killed in a “freak accident” outside of his home.

The incident occurred on the afternoon of Monday April 6th on Southcote Road, near Butter Road, as he was working under a vehicle when it unexpectedly fell off his tow truck and crushed him.

Peter’s father made the tragic discovery and lifted the vehicle off his son. He called 911 and Peter’s wife attempted CPR. But it was too late.

Hamilton police Constable Jerome Stewart pronounced him dead at the scene.

His brother, Mike Szymczak, said he was a good, hard-working man and father to three young children.

“Everyone looked up to him,” said Mike.

At noon on April 15th, over 100 tow operators from Hamilton, Halton, and Niagara came together to support the family of Peter Szymczak.

The salute began outside of P.X. Dermody Funeral Homes and stretched out along Upper Gage Street

Peter is being remembered as a hard-working Hamiltonian and provider for his three young children.
