A pop-up shop for craft beer, wine, and spirits is opening in Hamilton

A response to the current realities in Hamilton brought on by COVID-19, a new boutique bottle shop selling a curated selection of craft beer, wine, and spirits has opened up on James North.

The pop-up shop, called Bottle-O, is the brainchild of Dahlia Ishak and Ray Turner, the folks behind Hamilton’s own Salty Espresso and Meanwhile Winebar; the latter of which saw its short life come to a heartbreaking end just days ago during the COVID closures that have put so many Hamilton small businesses into precarious circumstances.

However, in a great example of turning lemons into lemonade, Ishak and Turner are pivoting their use of the former Meanwhile Winebar space, holding onto it and temporarily turning it into a one-stop bottle shop for the best small-batch adult beverages crafted in Hamilton and beyond.

“Ray and I have decided to take on the space in hopes of brighter days. We don’t know exactly what’s to come, only that it will become an extension of the Salty fam,” said Ishak in an Instagram post.

“Until then — We will be operating this pop-up North End Bottle Shop to help pay rent and the keep the ‘hood stocked for ISO backyard BBQs, Zoom meeting drinks, and leisure days on your doorstep.”

Taking its inspiration from Australian neighbourhood shops specializing in alcoholic beverages, Bottle-O will be selling take-away cans and bottles of craft beer, wine, spirits, ciders, meads, and cocktails made by local, national, and international suppliers. Snacks will also be available to purchase.

Though the North End bottle shop doesn’t officially open until this Saturday, Bottle-O’s Instagram is already teasing a selection of its ever-changing inventory including beers from local staples Grain & Grit and Merit Brewing, craft meads by Royal Canadian Mead, and wines from Dominio de Punctum in Spain.

Bottle-O’s offerings will be available to order online with the option of pickup at the shop, and guests are also welcomed to go to the shop for safely-coordinated, contactless purchases in person.

Bottle-O officially opens this Saturday May 9th and will be open from Thursday to Saturday weekly going forward. Check out their website for more details.
