Hamilton General Hospital declares COVID-19 outbreak as 6 workers test positive

Hamilton General Hospital has declared an outbreak of COVID-19 after six of its staff tested positive for the novel coronavirus.

The six staff members all work in the COVID-19 inpatient unit at Hamilton General, where they work directly with COVID-19 patients.

The first two staff members tested positive this past Friday, with another four added to that over the weekend and bringing the number to at least six positive cases among Hamilton General Hospital’s healthcare workers.

The hospital has said that all staff working within that unit are currently being tested, and all other healthcare workers who may have been exposed have also been notified.

Hamilton Health Sciences said in a release that the unit remains open, and is undergoing a thorough cleaning and sanitation procedure above and beyond the standard.

As of Sunday morning, the City of Hamilton has reported a total 631 confirmed positive cases of COVID-19. Of those cases, 420 are now considered resolved and 32 have resulted in deaths.
