Hamiltonians will be able to see SpaceX Crew Dragon fly over the city this weekend

People in the Hamilton area will be able to see SpaceX’s Crew Dragon fly over the city at 9:49 pm on Saturday.

SpaceX is the brainchild of billionaire entrepreneur Elon Musk. The aerospace manufacturer and space transportation services company has the goal of reducing the cost of space travel to enable the colonization of Mars.

On Wednesday, the company and NASA were supposed to launch Crew Dragon, the first all-American flight to enter space in nine years, but the launch was called off 16 minutes before take-off due to weather concerns.

A new launch date was scheduled for Saturday with a back-up date on the following Sunday. The Falcon 9 rocket launch will still be manned by NASA astronauts Robert Beknken and Douglas Hurley who are expected to fly to the International Space Station and back.

In the Hamilton subreddit, Reddit user JVM_ posted a link to a website that shows how and when to see a satellite from different locations without a telescope.

The website uses your location to show exactly where to look in the sky to see different satellites pass by overhead.

JVM_ said that the Space Station will be a bright non-blinking light moving toward the east between the Big Dipper and the horizon. Crew Dragon will appear shortly after the space station as they are chasing it.

The SpaceX’s Crew Dragon spacecraft is an autonomous vehicle that has never been tested before with astronauts onboard.

If the Crew Dragon is successful, it lays the groundwork for the space agency’s Artemis project, which aims to fly the first woman and next man to the moon by 2024 for long-term exploration.

All of this is an effort to make space travel more available to people and to build a business model that will commercialize space flight.
