Pride Hamilton makes the move to digital during COVID-19

Not even a global pandemic is going to stop Hamilton’s LGBTQIA+ and Two-Spirit communities from celebrating Pride this year, as Pride Hamilton has announced that it will be shifting events to a digital format as an adjustment to the temporary realities and restrictions of COVID-19.

The announcement of Pride Hamilton’s digital pivot comes nearly two months after the heartbreaking news that the annual Pride in the Park celebration – originally scheduled for June 20th in Gage Park – would be cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic and restrictions on public gatherings.

However, with that cancellation came assurance from Pride Hamilton that a celebration was still going to happen at some other time in some other way. While an in-person gathering is still off the table for the time being, Pride Hamilton will instead be hosting Digital Pride on Sunday, June 14th from 2 pm to 5 pm.

The 3-hour digital event, produced in collaboration with Cobalt Connects, will feature a lineup of the city’s most exciting performers in an exuberant – albeit remote – celebration of Pride in Hamilton. Local talent interested in performing at the event can submit an application through the Pride Hamilton website.

Hamilton businesses, individuals, and organizations interested in sponsoring the event can also apply to do so.

Hosted by the one-and-only Ladybird Fancypants, the event may not match the excitement of an in-person gathering; but that doesn’t mean it won’t still be fabulous.

Digital Pride Hamilton takes place on Sunday, June 14th from 2 pm to 5 pm. Follow Pride Hamilton on social media to stay updated.
