Winona Peach Festival has been cancelled amid COVID-19

Looks like local will have to wait until next summer to taste those sweet, sweet peach sundaes again, as the famous Winona Peach Festival has announced it is cancelling the festival for 2020 amid ongoing concerns with the COVID-19 pandemic.

Winona Peach Festival, which draws crowds from far and wide each year for outdoor entertainment, competitions, vendors, family activities, and food, has become an annual summer staple for the region; particularly for their iconic peach sundaes, which never fail to have festival-goers lining up for sometimes as long as an hour to get their taste.

The cancellation of this year’s festival, which was originally set to run from August 28th to 30th, should hardly be a surprise to locals as the COVID-19 pandemic has effectively halted pretty much any type of large gathering for the foreseeable future.

“We want to be part of the solution, not the problem, and we are making our contribution to assist in protecting everyone’s well-being,” said Winona Peach Festival’s President Linda Shuker in an official statement.

The announcement, posted to Winona Peach Festival’s social media, was met with an expected outpouring of heartbroken patrons expressing their disappointment over the news, but applauding the responsible decision and adding that they’ll eagerly return to the festival when it resumes in 2021.
