It’s going to be a pretty sip-less summer, Hamilton: another of the city’s craft beer festivals, Because Beer, has announced they will be cancelling their 2020 festival due to ongoing concerns with the COVID-19 pandemic.
Founded back in 2014, Because Beer has cemented itself as one of Hamilton’s biggest and best outdoor craft beer festivals. Taking place each summer at Pier 4 Park, Because Beer is known to attract hundreds of Hamiltonians to sample the best in Ontario craft beer while enjoying the summer sun.
In light of the unforeseeable impacts of coronavirus on large gatherings and the Province of Ontario’s ongoing state of emergency across the GTHA, the seventh annual edition of Because Beer Craft Beer Festival, July 10 & 11, 2020 at Pier 4 Park, is postponed to July 2021. However, the 2020 iteration of Because Beer, which was set to happen on July 10th and 11th, wouldn’t have been safe to move forward with given that large gatherings currently raise the risk of spreading the novel coronavirus.
Because Beer has said they plan to move forward with the festival in July 2021, and those with tickets for this year’s festival will be able to use those same tickets for the 2021 iteration instead. Refunds will also be honoured by request.
Expectedly, this isn’t the first craft beer festival to be cancelled for 2020; just a few days ago, the hotly-anticipated Collective Arts Fest, which was poised to be one of the biggest beer festivals in all of Ontario this year, also pulled the plug on its event.
With news of Because Beer and pretty much every other major event getting cancelled due to COVID-19, I think it’s safe to say we’d all just like to get 2020 over with.
