Hamilton’s Mayor Fred Eisenberger tests negative for COVID-19

Though he experienced symptoms in line with the novel coronavirus, Hamilton’s Mayor Fred Eisenberger has tested negative for COVID-19.

Mayor Eisenberger was initially concerned after he became symptomatic the morning of Thursday June 25th. Out of “an abundance of caution,” Eisenberger then went to get tested for COVID-19 on Friday.

Luckily, tests results received on Monday indicate that Eisenberger has tested negative for COVID-19. The Mayor emphasizes, however, that the coronavirus is still a very present threat to the city and precautions should continue to be taken.

“The Mayor would like to thank everyone who sent well wishes over the past few days and would also like to remind the public that this virus is in our community and we must remain vigilant in maintaining physical distancing, practicing good hygiene such as handwashing and adhering to all public health recommendations,” reads a statement from the Mayor’s office.

Those recommendations include staying at least 2 metres apart from others, wearing a mask or face covering in public spaces, avoiding contact with those in high-risk groups such as seniors, and washing your hands regularly and thoroughly with soap and water or hand sanitizer.

If you’re experiencing any potential symptoms of COVID-19, the City of Hamilton also urges you to get tested.

Hamilton currently has 834 confirmed and probable cases of COVID-19, of which 735 are now considered resolved and 44 have resulted in deaths.
