Three 29-storey towers proposed at the corner of John & Wilson

An intriguing set of documents shared by Hamilton city planner Mark Kehler show the architectural plans for a new set of three 29-storey towers proposed for the corner of John Street and Wilson Street.

From the looks of the plans, the three proposed towers would be built on the space currently holding the large municipal parking lot along Wilson Street at John Street North.

The towers as proposed would be residential buildings, holding a combined total of 962 units according to the documents prepared and released by Toronto-based real estate developer and architecture company Parcel Developments in December 2019.

One of the most intriguing aspects of Parcel Developments is their unorthodox approach to architecture.

Rather than build apartments of varying set sizes, the residential floors of each tower will instead feature equal sized ‘parcels’ of 250 square feet each; roughly the size of a standard hotel room.

Homebuyers can purchase as many of these ‘parcels’ as they wish to or can afford, designing the layout to their liking for anything from studio apartments to multi-bedroom dwellings. The parcels are also individually titled under a mortgage, so owners are free to sell individual parcels if they choose to in the future.

No word yet on if the project is expected to get the go-ahead, but it would certainly be an exciting residential development for the ongoing revitalization of Hamilton’s downtown core.
