The Canadian Premier League’s 2020 season will go on with a tournament-style event called The Island Games that’s set to kick-off on August 13th.
Forge FC will have the opportunity to defend the North Star Shield after all eight teams compete over the course of a few weeks at the University of Prince Edward Island’s Alumni Field in Charlottetown.

The Island Games will take place of the 2020 CPL regular season with winners being awarded the North Star Shield and qualification for the 2021 CONCACAF League.
All games will be played behind closed doors in a controlled area in order to keep in line with federal and provincial public health guidelines.
Forge FC will be the first team to play in a rematch of last season’s CPL final against Cavalry FC on August 13th. Every match will be shown on OneSoccer.
The tournament will start with an opening group stage where every team will play each other once with the top four teams advancing to the second round.
A second group stage will have the top four teams from round one play each other once with the top two teams advancing to the finals.
The final will be one game where the winner will walk away with the North Star Shield.
Teams will start to arrive in P.E.I. on August 8th to begin preparation for the beginning of The Island Games. Players who are travelling internationally to meet up with their team will be required to quarantine in their home market for 14 days.
The 2020 CPL season was scheduled to begin on April 11, but was postponed after training camps were shut on March 13th due to COVID-19.
