After many days of scorching heat, it looks like it’s still getting a little hotter in Hamilton.
Temperatures are supposed to reach around 42 degrees Celsius today, which would smash the record of 36.4 degrees Celsius set on this day in 1988.
With a forecast humidex of 42, today could be #Hamilton's muggiest Jul 9th since records began in 1970. #HeatWave2020 pic.twitter.com/zhpp999xh7

The record breaking temperatures are an extension of the continuous heat wave that’s been scorching the city. Environment Canada issued a heat warning earlier in the week that looks like it could continue into the weekend.
Although there is a temporary non-essential water banning Hamilton, some of the city’s public pools have started to reopen.
Hamilton Central Library at 55 York Blvd continues to be open as one of a few cooling zones in the city. They offer free drinking water and a place to relax if residents start to feel overheated.
A reminder that LaSalle Pool is now open and Nelson and Mountainside Pools will open on July 11. All pools have reduced capacity and you must pre-register and pre-pay online. View schedules at https://t.co/j08hKf6i9f. #BurlON pic.twitter.com/xNBwQmusxv

For those visiting LaSalle Park in Burlington, the public pool has recently opened with reduced capacity. People looking to take a dip must pre-register online before showing up at the park.
Environment Canada has reminded everybody that they should be aware of the safety precautions during such extreme heat and to act responsibly if they are experiencing swelling, rash, cramps, fainting, heat exhaustion, heat stroke, or the worsening of pre-existing health conditions.
