Though locals haven’t been able to enjoy Hamilton’s stunning waterfalls for the last few months amid COVID-19 concerns, the city has announced that it will be reopening many local waterfalls for public access this month.
Mayor Fred Eisenberger has said that a large number of the city’s waterfalls, as well as their adjacent parking lots, will reopen to the public on July 15th. However, this reopening excludes the Dundas Peak, Tews Falls, and Webster’s Falls.
Though many of Hamilton’s conservation areas, trails, and beaches have reopened as some COVID-19 restrictions continue to lift, waterfalls were not part of those reopenings in an effort to discourage excessive crowding.
#HamiltonReopens: Beginning July 15, most waterfalls in Hamilton will reopen, including their associated parking lots. At this time, Tews Falls, Websters Falls & Dundas Peak will remain closed. Remember to maintain a physical distance of 2m from those outside your social circle.

However, while these reopenings are occurring, it’s also important to hold true to the same COVID-19 safety guidelines as usual by maintaining at least two metres of distance from others in public spaces – even outdoor ones – and avoid joining large crowds.
Face masks or coverings should be worn when physical distancing isn’t possible, and frequent hand-washing with soap or hand sanitizer should continue to be observed.
The city has said there will be ample and prominent signage at open waterfalls and hiking trails reminding visitors to maintain proper physical distancing.
