Staff at the Hamilton centre will work alongside robotics to pick, pack, and ship small items to customers such as books, electronics, and toys.
There has yet to be an exact location announced for the 855,000 square foot warehouse. However, the media release from Amazon included messages from Donna Skelly, MPP for Flamborough-Glanbrook, and David Sweet, MP for Flamborough-Glanbrook, so it could be safe to hypothesize that the warehouse could be in the Flamborough area.
“Thank you, Amazon Canada, for investing in our community,” said Hamilton mayor Fred Eisenberger.
“This further highlights that Hamilton remains the top destination in the province to grow, innovate and do business. I am pleased that this significant investment will create 1,500 full-time jobs. This is the beginning of a strong partnership with Amazon Canada, and I look forward to our continued collaboration in the future.”
A second fulfillment centre is also being built in Ajax bringing Amazon’s total number of centres to 10 in Ontario and 16 in Canada.
