City of Hamilton urges locals to book online in advance for COVID-19 testing

With rapidly increasing demand for COVID-19 testing and limited local facilities, the City of Hamilton is urging residents looking for an assessment to book their appointments in advance rather than walking in for their tests.

A release from the city explains that visits to Hamilton’s testing centres have doubled recently, with around 1,000 people each day queuing up – sometimes for hours straight – to get assessed.

In addition, calls to Hamilton public health have nearly tripled in just two weeks, jumping from around 1,000 calls each day to as many as 3,000 in recent days.

As a result, the city is pushing harder for locals to make their appointment in advance, to help ensure a more timely and rapid assessment.

Appointments can be booked one of two ways. Firstly, locals can phone Hamilton Public Health’s COVID hotline at 905-974-9848 each day between 8:30 am and 4:30 pm to schedule an appointment; though, they remind locals that, with over 2,000 calls a day, they may have to wait on the line.

Additionally, as of today Hamilton Public Health has officially launched an online booking portal so locals can make an appointment without needing to phone in.

“A sincere thank you to members of the public for your patience and understanding as we work through this, and a heartfelt thank you to our hard-working staff at the testing centres who are doing their best during this challenging time,” says Hamilton Public Health in a release.
