In hopes of bringing a bit of joy to the city’s residents amid a very tough 2020, Hamilton will be providing free admission to the annual Fall Garden & Mum Show in Gage Park for all attendees this year.
The decision comes via city council’s public works committee, who voted on Monday to subsidize the cost of admission for Hamilton residents who want to attend the famous Mum Show, which is also entering its landmark 100th year.
Hamilton City Council Public Works Cmte votes to make Mum Show free for 2020. The show runs from Oct 23 to Nov 1 at Gage Park.

To waive the usual $7.25 admission fee for locals will cost the city somewhere between an estimated $24,500 to $32,700, depending on how many attend. The city also says this will be a one-time-only goodwill gesture for residents.
The Mum Show has become an annual fall staple in Hamilton, usually featuring gorgeous floral displays with playful themes, family activities, live entertainment, and more.
However, in light of the COVID-19 pandemic, this year’s event will be a more scaled-back affair, with less displays overall, no vendors, no activity area, no live entertainment, and no café.
Still, it’s exciting that Hamilton’s Fall Garden & Mum Show, which is set to take place October 23rd to November 1st, will nonetheless get to celebrate its 100th anniversary with locals, even in a reduced format.
City council is set to ratify the decision next week. Read more about this year’s event on the City of Hamilton website.
