Ontario reports over 200 confirmed COVID-19 cases in a single day

The province of Ontario has reported 213 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 on Friday, marking the largest single-day increase in known cases since June.

Broken down by region, 71 of these new cases are in Toronto, 38 are in Peel region, 37 in Ottawa, 15 in Wateroo, 14 in the York region, and 6 in the Hamilton-Halton region.

Numbers of new cases have been on a steady incline recently, with frequent reports of over 100 new COVID-19 cases daily province-wide. As of now, Ontario has seen a total confirmed 44,068 cases of COVID-19 and 2,813 total deaths since the pandemic first hit the province.

The continuing upward trend in new confirmed cases is especially concerning as the school year begins for students across Ontario; an event that Ontario public health officials have said will result in “inevitable” outbreaks of the novel coronavirus.

Ontarians are reminded to stay the course regarding established COVID-19 health & safety measures, including wearing a mask or face covering in public spaces, frequently washing your hands, only socializing closely with those in your 10-person social bubbles, and staying home whenever possible.
