Wildfires have been spreading throughout the west coast of the United States for the last few months and the smoke has travelled all the way to Hamilton creating hazy skies over the city.
People have been posting photos to social media of the sky over Southern Ontario showing a noticeable haze.
The Weather Network confirmed that the hazy effects in the sky is in fact smoke that’s travelled from the wildfires in California and Oregon.
Many are asking about the hazy sky. Yes, smoke from the western U.S. wildfires has reached southern Ontario. The haze/smoke should continue thru Tuesday. The haze will likely hold temperatures back by a degree or two during the day https://t.co/zmeQJN4yNE

In a blog post, meteorologists at The Weather Network said that the haze could create cooler temperatures as the smoke travels across the sky.
They also said that the smoke isn’t expected to affect the air quality in Southern Ontario unlike British Columbia who had their air quality drop to hazardous levels over the last few days.
However, the skies over Hamilton have a hazy tone that could result in unique effects specifically creating beautiful sunsets that social media users have been trying to capture in their photos.

Since the beginning of the year, the California wildfires have burned almost 3.2 million acres of land along the west coast of the U.S.
California Governor Gavin Newsom and Los Angeles Mayor Garcetti have attributed the severity of this season’s wildfires to climate change.
