Two students at Hamilton Catholic school test positive for COVID-19

Two students at St. Kateri Tekakwitha Catholic Elementary School have been found to test positive for COVID-19, according to a notice from the Hamilton-Wentworth Catholic District School Board (HWCDSB).

A message posted on the St. Kateri Tekakwitha CES website explains that both students were exposed and infected outside of school, and were each last in school on September 24th before getting their positive test results on Tuesday.

The two affected cohorts of staff and students have been instructed by local public health to self-isolate at home for a total 14 days from the date of last potential exposure on September 24th.

Public health is currently working with the school and the Catholic board on contact tracing, and any individuals who may have come into contact with the positive students will be contacted.

Additionally, St. Kateri Tekakwitha CES has said that it is undergoing a deep cleaning and sanitation procedure of the school facilities out of an abundance of caution.

“The health, safety and well-being of our students and staff is always a priority concern for our school and school board, but is especially important during the current pandemic,” reads the statement from St. Kateri Tekakwitha CES.

“We will continue to work closely with HPHS to ensure all health and safety measures are in place to prevent transmission to other students and individuals in the school community.”
