Hamilton footwear brand donates boots to 300 Inuit students in Nunavut

Popular Canadian footwear brand Baffin, which has crafted boots and other apparel right here in Hamilton for decades, is donating hundreds of boots to Inuit students in Nunavut amid the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic on the region’s access to everyday items.
Baffin, which has been a leading manufacturer of boots and other outerwear in Stoney Creek since 1979, has partnered with outerwear company Canada Goose and well-known Canadian actor and producer Ryan Reynolds to donated over 300 parkas and pairs of boots to students at the Inuujaq School in Arctic Bay, Nunavut: one of the province’s most northern hamlets.
Due to COVID-19, this region of Nunavut is seeing a reduction in its access to necessary items, including winter clothing.
“Our mission is to promote the skills, confidence and cultural pride in our students so they can pursue their dreams, realize their ambitions, become life-long learners and contribute to their community,” said Gregg Durrant, Inuujaq School Principal. “Living in a northern community, access to almost everything is limited, and this has been accentuated by the impact of COVID-19.”
According to actor, producer, and entrepreneur Ryan Reynolds, he reached out to Canada Goose – which also owns Baffin Inc – about a partnership after becoming aware of the conditions out in northern Nunavut.
“It came to my attention students at Inuujaq School in Arctic Bay were going without adequate winter clothing. Of course, it highlights a larger issue of basic needs going unmet in Canada’s northern communities,” said Reynolds.
