HSR is ending sales of paper bus tickets and passes this week

As the Hamilton Street Railway (HSR) gradually moves its way into a primarily paperless system of fare payment, the sale of paper bus tickets and passes is set to stop at the end of October.

As of October 31st, the HSR will be doing away with selling physical paper copies of tickets and passes to Hamilton’s transit riders as they encourage locals to move to digital means of fare payment such as e-tickets and PRESTO cards.

The reloadable PRESTO card will be the easiest solution of fare payment for locals who use public transit on a regular basis, while the PRESTO smartphone app– which is available through the Apple App Store and Google Play – strives to be the convenient option for more casual riders who can buy and use individual tickets at a moment’s notice right on their phone.

Cash fare will also still be accepted for those who may not have ready access to a digital means of fare payment.

Senior-aged Hamiltonians over the age of 80 who are set to receive their Golden Age pass will now be issued a one-time, free-use PRESTO card that will allow for unlimited free travel on HSR vehicles.

Any tickets purchased prior to October 31st will still be honoured until the end of 2020, but will no longer be accepted on HSR buses after December 31st.
