McMaster University confirms seventh COVID-19 case on campus

In spite of the 2020/21 academic year taking place mostly online, McMaster University has been steadily seeing COVID-19 cases confirmed in students and staff who spent time on campus.

In a statement released on October 19th, the university confirmed its seventh case of COVID-19 found on campus in a student of the school, who received their positive test results the day before.

The student, who had spent time in numerous areas of the Michael G. DeGroote Centre for Learning and Discovery, immediately notified the university of the test result, allowing McMaster to readily take action and thoroughly clean all areas of the building, including any applicable lab equipment.

Contact tracing is being handled by local public health, who will make contact with anyone who may have been affected or exposed by the infected student.

This case marks the seventh found on campus at McMaster since the fall semester started at the top of September.
