Hamilton malls will be offering virtual Santa visits this year

With 2020 being the year of uncertainty, there’s one holiday tradition that will continue in the Hamilton area this winter; albeit, a little differently than usual.

Local malls will be hosting Santa Claus, but this year, he’ll be chatting with people virtually over the holiday season instead..

Lime Ridge Mall confirmed that the man in red will only be virtual or online to protect the wellbeing of all guests as well as “ensuring Santa is in top condition to make deliveries to children around the world at midnight on Christmas Day. “

According to the Cadillac Fairview website, some research and focus groups they conducted over the past few weeks helped them realize that most visits to shopping centres over this holiday season will be efficient and mission-driven during the pandemic.

CF Storytime Live will take place on Facebook Live and feature 15-minute episodes in both English and French. Parents can also arrange a special video call from Santa for their household. More information about making reservations can be found here.

It’s also been confirmed that Santa Claus will be visiting Burlington Centre for a hybrid in-person and digital experience

Visitors who want to meet Santa in-person for a photo can make a reservation on the mall’s website, which also features a list of the health and safety protocols that will be implemented.

For those who don’t want to venture to Burlington Centre in person, the alternative virtual holiday experience includes story time with Santa, photos with Santa, pet photos with Santa, jingle bell traditions, mistletoe traditions, and holiday magic traditions.

Santa arrives on November 21st. However, it doesn’t appear as if he’s going to make his famous entrance by helicopter this year.
