Hamilton asks residents to weigh in on city’s 30-year growth plan

Hamilton is headed into a future of ambitious growth and possibility; and now, the city is asking its residents to weigh in on Hamilton’s 30-year growth plan.

As the city plans for a predicted influx of roughly 236,000 new residents and 122,000 new jobs by the year 2051, officials have launched a public survey that will allow the city’s existing residents to add their own feedback to a number of plans related to this anticipated growth.

The survey, which should take no more than 10 minutes to complete, looks at intensification, density, and climate change implications related to the city’s plans for growth both in population and in employment.

There will also be virtual engagement sessions on Monday, January 18th from 6 pm to 8 pm as well as Wednesday, January 20th from 1:30 pm and 3:30 pm that Hamilton residents are invited to attend, in which city officials will review the current draft of their Land Needs Assessment, review next steps, and address concerns from public comments about growth plans.

“Public engagement is a cornerstone of the planning process. This is an exciting opportunity for Hamiltonians to provide their feedback about how we grow as a community over the next 30 years,” said Steve Robichaud, Hamilton’s Chief Planner and Director of Planning.

“We must ensure the supply of residential and non-residential development opportunities in both our existing urban areas and in new developing resilient, flexible and diverse communities that can respond to the challenges and opportunities of mitigating and adapting to climate change, while meeting future market demand. Ultimately, we want to be leaders in developing the sustainable communities of 2051 and beyond.”
